Bomb-Ass Turkey Burgers

These are some of the best turkey burgers you'll ever have—Period. By itself, ground turkey meat doesn't taste all that great, but when you invite a bunch of southwestern themed ingredients to the party, it'll turn that frown upside down.My neighbor swore he hated turkey burgers until the day came when his doctor told him he couldn't eat red meat for a while. I made him one of these and blew his mind. Not only is he a turkey burger fan now, but he actually gets a craving for this and asks me to make it for him again.

Drink Pairings for Turkey Burgers

These turkey burgers have all sorts of southwestern flavors going on. For beer, a nice amber ale like the MacTarnahan's Amber Ale from Pyramid Brewing. It's not overly sweet like many Ambers on the market, but has fresh crisp hops on the finish. I like it with the burger.

For wine, uh, you know I'm not sure every single meal calls for wine. In this case I'd go with beer 100% but since this is a burger with some heat, you can't go wrong with Riesling. If Riesling doesn't go with it, nothing will.

It's generally a good idea to make burger patties a few hours ahead of time no matter what kind of burger you're making. In this case, try to make the burger patties at least four hours in advance to let all the seasoning marinate into the turkey meat.

Combine turkey meat and seasoning in a medium bowl, then shape 3-4 burger patties. Cover and refrigerate.

Before grilling, let the patties sit out at room temperature for 20-30 minutes to let the meat warm up a bit. That helps it cook more evenly on the grill. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat before cooking.

Cook patties on the first side on medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes. Flip the patties and cook for about 3 minutes before adding bacon and pepper jack cheese. You can toast the buns on the grill, or you can put some butter on them and toast them on a griddle, which is what I do. At this point, is a little butter going to hurt?

Assemble the burgers with toasted wheat buns, lettuce, guacamole and finished burger with bacon and cheese. Enjoy!
